Given who's on my flist, (1) I'm sure y'all are already keenly aware, (2) you probably all read Cesperanza anyway and have already seen her post, and (3) you're probably all Dan Savage fans and have already read his post.
But just in case.
cesperanza just posted encouraging folks to donate to "No on 8," because "Yes on 8" is gaining steam. This is the bill to make banning gay marriage part of the state constitution. It must not pass.
As I noted in my comment to Ces, as an added incentive to donate, sex advice columnist Dan Savage has committed to writing a personal answer to anyone who donates $25.00 or more before October 16.
Guys. I live in one of the big gay Meccas. My housemates are out and proud, both at work in the city and at home in the suburbs. Still, when Lindsay was bitten badly by a dog a few years ago, Nicole wasn't allowed in the ER with her. Mom was, Grandmom was, but Lindsay wanted Nicole, and Nicole couldn't go in. Because she wasn't family, wasn't related. What a joke. (Their relationship has already lasted longer than my -- legal -- marriage.)
I've heard a million stories like this over the years. I'm betting y'all have either heard 'em -- or lived 'em -- too.
If the ginormatron that is California recognizes gay marriage, the rest of the country will (probably slowly, but inevitably eventually) follow.
Go. Donate.
