I was looking up the side effects of the anti-cancer meds I'm (OMG still!) on, and found this tidbit at breastcancer.org:

Hot flashes or night sweats from taking tamoxifen can be troubling. But a 2008 British study suggests that women who experienced hot flashes and night sweats while taking hormonal therapy medicine were less likely to have the breast cancer come back (recur).

Knowing that is making the stupid things so very much easier to tolerate. (If more intense symptoms indicate a greater reduction in recurrence, I am in good, good shape!)

w00t w00t w00t!  \o/  \o/  \o/  \o/  \o/  \o/  \o/  \o/  \o/

Today I have my Very. Last. Chemo.

*cue the Rocky Horror, and sing!*  There's a liiight.  There's a liiiiiiiiight!

Mostly this is exciting because it means that my brain, she will very, very soon be back for keeps (as opposed to visiting me for two or three days every other week, and then leaving me again with the next treatment).  Oh, I have missed her so.

Chemo progresses apace.  Six rounds done, two more to go.  In the meantime, I'm keeping my tired, cranky, bald-headed, foggy-brained self as far away from the rest of humanity as possible.  I'll get back to y'all  when I'm decent.

Except for this:   If you haven't seen it yet, [info]tightropegirl posted a strike update yesterday, and is asking for fans to join in the pencil campaign in support of the WGA, A.S.A.P.  Check out her post, here.  The fan-love within will make you proud to be a fan (not that you weren't already!).  (If you don't know tightropegirl, she's Doris Egan, currently a writer for "House," and a fangirl her own self.)

Psssst, pass it on.  ;-)

Less symmetrical than I used to be, but everything else seems to be intact, thank God, including my slightly off-kilter sense of humor.

I love my daughter!  She went to the video store to get me some "comfort movies."  Were she picking for herself, she would have brought back a giant stack of chick flicks.  I -- can't handle chick flicks at the moment.  I don't want to watch anything in which the beauty of our intrepid heroine (particularly not her softly-rounded or lushly-full bozooms) is a plot point.

She brought back:
  • Snatch
  • The Lost Boys
  • Shawn of the Dead
  • Men With Brooms
  • The Bourne Identity
  • Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
  • My Big Fat Greek Wedding (fully acceptable because part of the point is that Nia Vardalos isn't Hollywood pretty)
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (fully acceptable because her boobs are part of the joke!)
She did soooooo good.

What do y'all think we should rent next?  What would you watch if (1) your energy levels were low -- like, fall asleep every hour or two low, and (2) you wanted to avoid our cultural obsession with pairs of perfect, perky tits, but still wanted to be entertained? *g*

It's cancer. Surgical consult Monday afternoon. Further testing being done on the sample to determine what kind it is, how aggressive it is, and whether or not they'll want to do radiation/chemo/hormone therapy afterwards.

Still, knowing for sure is way better than the waiting and wondering and wild mood swings between optimism and terror of the last few days. Plus I'm a tough old bird, I'm at my best in a crisis, and this ain't yet the end of the world.

[livejournal.com profile] topaz119, [livejournal.com profile] logovo, [livejournal.com profile] lily_liedtome, [livejournal.com profile] katesnotes, and [livejournal.com profile] bluevsgrey, thank you guys so much. Every time I've felt wigged out or teary since Tuesday, I've pulled up something to read from the lists you left (I'm treating them like a Chinese Menu -- one from Column A, one from Column B...). It really, really helped.

Bless y'all. :)

I have a mass growing in my right breast. They biopsied it yesterday, but the pathology report won't be back until Friday afternoon or (argh!) Monday morning.

I need 3-5 days worth of distraction, people.

Rec me some slash, babies!

I want exquisite writing in any fandom from any time. Worlds I can get lost in. Give me an overlooked gem, or remind me of an old favorite or two (or three or twenty). Short or long, light or dark, hearts and flowers or sizzlin' porn; it's all good.

(To any and all "old timers" out there: I find I'm especially hankering for fic in TS, MfU, SG1 -- old, lost loves. We got a new computer last year when our old one crashed and burned, and I lost a lot of links in the process. Plus, I got distracted by the shiny of SGA, then SPN, so I know I've missed some stories that shouldn't be missed.)

What wonderful stories do you have bookmarked? Which authors do you go back to time and time again? Where do you go for respite from the real world?
